Folding Fan Experience Workshop

In this Folding Fan Experience Workshop, learn about the basic anatomy of the folding fan, how to construct the frame out of wood and assemble a hand fan together with a fan face that you have designed.

Found across cultures from early times, fans were constructed out of a diverse array of materials from feathers to wood to bone. Before the invention of electric fans and air-conditioning, fans served a practical function to provide relief on hot days. Later, it evolved to serve symbolic and social functions, also becoming a canvas for artists to display their skills.

Today, we are most familiar with the oriental folding fan constructed out of paper and bamboo. MOKKO Wood Studio has designed our own version made up of the material we love most - wood. Under close guidance, you will use woodworking tools to shape wood. You will also be presented with a white, blank canvas for the fan face - so before you come for the workshop, have fun envisioning designs that you love. At the end of the workshop, go home and surprise your friends and family with a one-of-a-kind crafted hand fan that will send you a cool breeze and remind you of the pleasure of working with your hands.

No prior experience is required and all tools and materials are provided.
